Scotland will now forever hold a special place in our hearts. Spending a total of 4 weeks there, it was the 4th European country we visited in our European travels and were lucky enough to have 4 of our closest friends visit us! Visiting Edinburgh, Scotland offers a captivating blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. This enchanting city boasts a stunning skyline dominated by the Edinburgh Castle perched atop an ancient volcanic rock. Here are our top 5 things you must do in Edinburgh:
1. Indulge in a Full English Breakfast at The Edinburgh Larder
When it comes to indulging in a satisfying breakfast, few things compare to the classic Full English Breakfast. A delightful combination of flavors and textures, this iconic British meal has won the hearts and palates of breakfast enthusiasts worldwide. Today, we turn our attention to The Edinburgh Larder, a charming eatery nestled in the heart of Scotland’s capital, where they serve up a Full English Breakfast that will leave you yearning for more, literally. I went two days in a row and the boys went a total of 3 times in less than 10 days. Hands down the BEST breakfast we’ve ever had, making this place a MUST visit when you’re in town.
This isn’t just any Full English Breakfast… this is a SCOTTISH Full English breakfast. Which means, haggis is also served in addition to the regular Full English Breakfast items. The portion sizes are huge and the eggs are cooked to perfection. Expect Ramsay’s smoked back bacon, black pudding, haggis, Cumberland sausage, roasted flat mushroom, blistered cherry tomatoes, homemade beans (which are superior to any other beans I’ve tried, by the way), poached egg and buttered granary toast. You will leave full and oh so satisfied.
2. Hike Arthur's Seat
Nestled within the heart of Edinburgh, Scotland’s picturesque capital, Arthur’s Seat stands as an impressive natural wonder. Lucky enough for us, it was RIGHT in our backyard. This ancient volcano, now an extinct one, has been an enticing destination for hikers and nature lovers for centuries. With its breathtaking panoramic views, rich history, and diverse wildlife, hiking Arthur’s Seat offers an unforgettable experience that combines outdoor adventure with cultural exploration.

The well-maintained paths ensure a safe and enjoyable hike, but it’s essential to wear appropriate footwear and be mindful of the occasionally steep and uneven terrain.

Hey, you may even get into a civil debate with some drunken elderly Scottish folks about American politics. If there’s one thing we learned while being in Scotland, it’s that the Scottish LOVE their country!
Located just above Waverly train station, Festival Village is a great spot to get the party started as soon as you get into town. There is no better drink than the first drink you have after arriving in your new destination, am I right?
