Welcome to magical fairy-tale land! The Cotswolds, a region renowned for its picturesque landscapes, ancient architecture, and warm hospitality is the most charming and darling place ever. Nestled in the heart of England, it boasts of centuries-old stone cottages, lush green hills, and quaint little towns. The Cotswolds is truly the coziest place we’ve been to yet, not to mention the accents are perfectly splendid! Here are the top 5 best things to do when visiting the Cotswolds:
1. Visit the Cotswolds Farm Park
A trip wouldn’t be complete to the Cotswolds without visiting the magical Cotswolds Farm Park. It is a must-visit from destination for animal lovers and families alike. This working farm offers visitors a chance to get up close and personal with a wide range of farm animals, from playful goats to adorable lambs. We even got to feed 2 shetland cows (from a distance)!
We were lucky enough to be in the area during lambing season, which is from the 14th of February until the 24th of April, and witnessed a sheep giving birth to a baby lamb! What a wild, kind of gross, but beautiful experience.
In addition to the cute animal encounters, the Cotswolds Farm Park also offers a range of family-friendly activities, including tractor rides, nature trails, and a soft play area for younger children. The farm also has coffee vendors serving coffee, tea, and hot chocolate as well as a cafe serving delicious homemade food.
Overall, our visit to the Cotswolds Farm Park was a highlight of our trip to the Cotswolds region and can be enjoyed by anyone, at any age. I mean, we’re in our thirties and may have had more fun than the kiddos!

2. Hike Selsley Common in Stroud
Selsley Common, located in Stroud, England, is a wonderful hiking destination that offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside. We randomly stumbled upon this hike and we were so glad we did! With its rolling hills and lush greenery, this beautiful area is a must visit.
The hike at Selsley Common is relatively easy and suitable for all ages and fitness levels. It covers a distance of around five miles (however you do not have to go the entire distance) and takes about an hour and a half to complete. The trail is well-marked and offers a mix of open fields, woodlands, and hills to traverse.
One of the most significant draws of hiking Selsley Common is the breathtaking panoramic views from the top of the hill. You’ll be able to see for miles around, taking in the stunning vistas of the Cotswolds and the Severn Valley. It’s a truly awe-inspiring experience that is not to be missed.
Overall, hiking Selsley Common is a fantastic way to experience the beauty of the English countryside. Whether you’re an avid hiker or just looking for a peaceful walk, you’ll find plenty to love about this picturesque destination.

3. Enjoy a Delicious Meal With a View at The Bear of Rodborough
Nestled in the heart of the Cotswolds, The Bear of Rodborough offers not only delicious cuisine but also stunning views of the surrounding countryside. No exaggeration, both Michael and I can agree that this was one of the best meals we’ve had in Europe this far. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, dining at The Bear is an experience not to be missed.
The restaurant offers a range of dishes, from classic British favorites to more contemporary options, all made with locally sourced ingredients. We highly recommend the Hampshire venison bourguignon, pan-roasted pollock, and the Angela Hartnetts roasted butternut squash & goat’s cheese ravioli. Pair it with a fresh bramble gin cocktail and voila! Chef’s kiss!
But what really sets The Bear apart is its stunning views. The restaurant overlooks acres of rolling hills and countryside, with picture-perfect scenery in every direction. Sunset is especially gorgeous. It’s the perfect setting for a romantic dinner for two or a leisurely lunch with friends.

4. Visit One of the Local Farm Shops
The Cotswolds is known for its beautiful landscape and lush greenery. Its no wonder the region is home to 3,434 farm holdings! We were lucky enough to visit two farm shops that are completely worth mentioning and would 10/10 go back again, and again, and again. So put Diddly Squat Farm Shop and Daylesford Organic on your list of MUST visit places in the Cotswolds.
If you’re a fan of the hit TV show “Top Gear,” you might have heard of Diddly Squat Farm Shop. This farm shop is owned by none other than former “Top Gear” host and current “Clarkson’s Farm” star Jeremy Clarkson, and is an absolute MUST visit. We went twice.
Visiting Diddly Squat Farm Shop is a unique experience that combines the charm of a traditional farm shop with the humor and eccentricity that Jeremy Clarkson is known for.
Inside, the shop offers a wide range of products, from fresh produce and meats to locally-made jams, fresh milk aka cow juice, chutneys (absolutely to die for), cheeses, and beverages. There’s also a cafĂ© where I had the BEST egg sandwich I’ve ever had and some (attack cow) chili (if ya know, ya know!) while taking in the beautiful countryside views. Enjoy a nice cold beer and some delicious foods at this iconic farm shop, you won’t be disappointment!
The second farm I recommend visiting is the Daylesford Organic Farm Shop. This delightful farm shop is a must-visit for anyone interested in organic farming and sustainable living. The farm shop is located in the heart of the Cotswolds, in the village of Daylesford, and it is a popular destination for foodies, families, and tourists alike.
The shop offers a wide range of organic produce, including fruit and vegetables, meat and poultry, dairy products, bread and baked goods, and a range of other groceries. All of the produce is grown on the farm, which means that it is incredibly fresh and of the highest quality. The shop also offers a range of artisanal products, such as handmade chocolates, jams, and pickles, which are all made using organic ingredients.
This isn’t any old farm shop. Other than the farm shop itself you will find three different restaurants including one with a Michelin Green Star, a large outside seating area to enjoy a beverage, a wine shop with all organic wines, and a cookery school where you can learn loads of culinary techniques!

5. Explore the Most Picturesque Villages
While there are many darling villages in the Cotswolds, there are four you absolutely must visit. All relatively close together by car, spend a day or two driving around and exploring these picturesque villages.
Lower Slaughter is a tiny village that is located along the banks of the River Eye. The village is known for its stunning stone cottages, old water mill, and beautiful countryside. The name of the village may be a bit off-putting, but visitors will quickly find that it is a peaceful and idyllic place that is perfect for a relaxing day out.
Bourton-on-the-Water is another village that is located along a river, in this case the River Windrush. The village is often referred to as the “Venice of the Cotswolds” due to the numerous low bridges that cross the river. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll along the riverbank or take a picnic on the village green. This one was probably my favorite!
Chipping Camden is a larger village that has a long and rich history. The village is known for its elegant architecture, which features many beautiful limestone buildings. Visitors can explore the village’s many antique shops, art galleries, and boutiques, or take a walk along the picturesque High Street.
Finally, Burford is a market town that is situated on a hill overlooking the Windrush Valley. The town is home to many historic buildings, including the beautiful St John the Baptist Church. Visitors can also explore the town’s many shops, restaurants, and pubs. We had a delightful full English breakfast at The Angel at Burford.
All of these villages offer a unique glimpse into the charm and beauty of the Cotswolds. Whether you are looking for a relaxing day out, or an opportunity to explore the history and architecture of the region, the Cotswolds villages are definitely worth a visit.
